A large part of organic farming is about maintaining the health of our environment so we can benefit indirectly from these through sustainable practices. Foods that are certified as organic have been proven to be grown by farms following a strict protocol that supervise the production process. It is of utmost importance that natural fertilizers are used in organic farming so that beneficial organisms won’t be killed off by the abundant chemicals. A sign that farmers are doing something right is the presence of earthworms in their land. Earthworms helped to till and aerate the soil, thus maintaining soil structure and fertility. Erosion is less likely to occur and thus the topsoil is not likely to be washed off. The resistance of plants are actually stronger without the usage of artificial chemicals and methods such as crop rotation and encouraging biodiversity will reduce outbreak of diseases. The crops are healthier and to some, it even taste better.
